Life adjustment counselling

You may want to engage with a counsellor if

You want to be more fruitful in your daily life, but feel that something is keeping you back.

Burnout

When things in life change

Sometimes changes in life impact you and your life more than you expected, leaving you feeling unsettled, angry, afraid, lacking peace or even numb. This is not an abnormal reaction, rather an indicator that your current skills in coping may be pushed to their limits.

The counselling space may be a novel space for you, you may prefer to avoid sharing these parts of yourself, or you may avoid burdening other people with how you feel and what you think.

You will work on skills that may be useful in navigating life's struggles. The skills needed will be dependent on your specific needs in a specific situation. This is what makes counselling such a unique process, specifically catered to each person, couple, family or group. The aim with the skills building of the counselling process is to equip each counsellee in order to face each new challenge in life with greater success.

Struggle

Scope of practice

As a Wellness Counsellor, scope of practice qualifies me to work with clients through a range of life adjustment struggles and self management difficulties.

These difficulties may be relationship difficulties, anger management issues, grief, lack of fulfillment, among other difficulties.

For more on our special focus, see the services list.

One aspect to remember when embarking in counselling with a Wellness Counsellor: where the counsellor (us at Fruitful Minds included) deems it necessary for the client to receive more specialised expertise or even a better fitting counsellor, the counsellor will suggest referring the client to such a professional. This will always be in the clients best interests.

Counselling

Benefits of counselling

In some cases, it may be simply helpful to voice how you feel, to have a space to be honest. Recognising your need to revive your wellbeing is an important step. A part of this is understanding that your experience is a normal response. Counselling will aim to build self-compassion so that you can start rebuilding your wellbeing.

Through the counselling process, you may work on skills for managing your life fully. Although many of the skills built in counselling may seem intuitive to humankind, it is not always realistic to expect this in all people. Don't feel overly concerned or afraid if you find that you haven't yet built certain skills. The opportunity may lie in the counselling process

Skills that may be built in counselling may include: communication skills, stress management skills, boundary setting, perspective building, compassion, among others.
